Henri Cliquet-Pleyel (1894 - 1963)

Another young composer fascinated by American popular music was the Parisian Henri Cliquet-Pleyel. A pupil, like Milhaud, Honegger, Messager, Ibert, Wiéner, Ravel and many others, of André Gedalge. Clarity, simplicity and humour, in the manner of Satie, are the characteristics of his music. His early works for piano also include five tangos (1920–22), many tributes to Satie, and two blues: Come Along and Far Away, composed in 1922 and denoting the influence of Negro folk songs.
