Pierre Vellones (pseudonym of Pierre Édouard Léon Rousseau) was a composer very open to experimentation in orchestration. Vellones was the first French composer to write for the ondes martenot, but he was also interested in oriental instruments as well as saxophone and jazz orchestra (Prélude et Cinq Fables de Florian, Op. 28, for voice and jazz orchestra, 1929; Planisphère, Op. 23 for jazz ensemble, 1930).
