Emma Kodály (1863 - 1958)

Emma Kodály was born Emma Schlesinger in Baja, a small Southern Hungarian town in 1863. She studied piano and singing and started composing at an early age. In 1905 Zoltán Kodály became her music tutor and they soon fell in love and married. Until her death in 1958, Emma was devoted to her husband and his music. Songs and piano pieces form the bedrock of her own compositions.
